Tiny Houses: Small Homes, Big Ambitions… and Many Obstacles

16.10.2025 · Press reviews

Switzerland is facing a housing crisis, exacerbated by a rise in single-person households, an aging population, and densification mandated by the new Spatial Planning Act (LAT). Traditional housing models like villas, high-rises, and shared apartments are struggling to meet this urgent demand. Micro-homes, or tiny houses, are emerging as a sustainable and flexible alternative, offering ecological, economic, and social benefits. In an article for *Le Temps*, journalist Julie Müller-Pellegrini explores this forward-looking solution.

In Eysins (VD),Max Nack, Partner and Managing Architect of the CCHE Nyon subsidiary, shares his experience designing a micro-home, the Tiny House integrated into an existing plot, illustrating how quality of life, sustainability, and intelligent densification can be reconciled.

The CCHE project demonstrates how architecture can concretely address current housing challenges by exploring innovative and adaptive solutions. Through the Eysins example, Max Nack and his team show that micro-homes are not only an ecological and economical alternative but also a way to reinvent the use of space, optimize land use, and create functional habitats integrated into the landscape. This experiment paves the way for more accessible and sustainable housing models in our region.
