Sustainability in the DNA of the new Isabelle de Montolieu building

25.06.2024 · Press reviews

The June-July 2024 issue of Bâtiment & Construction magazine showcases the transformation of the Isabelle de Montolieu building, prompted by the need to refurbish the premises as a priority. Built in the 1970s on a wooded plot, the building no longer met current energy or safety standards. This led to the launch of a project which was deeply committed to a sustainable approach.

This client-driven approach was supported by the City of Lausanne and architects and can be seen in several aspects of the project. The use of more ecological materials, the preservation of the surrounding park, and the conservation of the foundations led to the application for Minergie Eco label status. As the building is located in a wooded park, the construction needed to adapt to this natural constraint to preserve the different species.

For Vincent Luyet, head of communications at Minergie-CECB, this project symbolises ‘a significant step forward for environmentally friendly construction in Switzerland’. The Minergie ECO label also focuses on the wellbeing and the quality of life of the building’s users and includes the provision of natural light and accessibility for people with disabilities.
