CCHE has been awarded the parallel study mandate for the transformation of the Echallens nursing home. Situated within the historic suburb at the western entrance to the town, the existing building—set upon a commercial plinth and characterised by a postmodern form—calls for an intervention capable of reconnecting with its built and landscape context.
The project proposes a strong concept featuring a single, continuous and habitable roof, whose protective form draws inspiration from the neighbouring castle. The system of double dormers is the key element of the intervention: it enhances the rooms under the pitched roof by providing natural light, volume and comfort, whilst opening up new views of the landscape.
The transformation is based on a coordinated and committed technical approach, where energy performance and the enhancement of the existing building become key drivers of the project: discreet integration of photovoltaic panels into the roof, rainwater harvesting, appropriate ventilation, improvement of the building envelope and reuse of existing structures. This approach, carried out in collaboration with Tecnoprogetti SA, Fire Safety SA and Nicolas Fehlmann Ingénieurs Conseils SA, aims to combine quality of use, structural durability and environmental sustainability in the service of an efficient and welcoming healthcare facility.
