A vision of quality redevelopment
The Valais Arena and VIVA Eco-district project is part of a unique and ambitious initiative to transform and upgrade the Condémines brownfield site into a dynamic and sustainable eco-district which goes beyond the simple construction of sports and residential facilities. The aim is to create an integrated urban ecosystem.
With its teams and partners, CCHE is proud to have been able to play an active part in this initiative, not only in the development of this exceptional project, from an urban planning and landscaping points of view, but also in relation to the development of the ice rink (with a 6,500-person capacity) and its sports and residential facilities.
In line with current concerns and challenges surrounding social quality of life and sustainability, this project, in addition to a diversified range of sports, will offer leisure, commercial and activity facilities as well as high energy performance intergenerational housing.
A natural extension for the town of Sierre, and in close proximity to soft mobility links such as the SBB station, the redevelopment of this brownfield site has been on the local authority’s agenda for several years.
Today, this vision is finally coming to fruition and planning for the Valais Arena project and its future Ecoquartier has begun. This will house the largest indoor sports complex in the Valais, providing access to a variety of sporting disciplines such as hockey, curling and figure skating. Athletes and sports enthusiasts will be able to benefit from modern facilities and the latest technology.

A planned roadmap
Supported by Sierre-Valais Sport SA, Urban Project SA and their partners, this stage is a continuation of the project framework agreement signed with the City of Sierre in April 2023.
The next milestones will depend on the decisions of the City's Executive and Legislative bodies at the end of 2024, followed by the various stages of the construction process approval inherent to the project. This will include a public enquiry into the PAZ/RCCZ in spring 2025, and the sector 1 permit application in autumn 2025. Construction is due to start in June 2026 and the inauguration of the Valais Arena planned for early 2029. This will be followed by HC Sierre's first match at the venue in September of the same year. The rest of the VIVA Eco-district, i.e. sectors 2 (residential), 3 (mixed programme) and South (residential), is planned to be completed during the project’s second phase, between 2029 and 2035, in line with the planned development of Sierre town.
