Progress on the 2m2c construction site in Montreux

31.03.2025 · News

Renovation work on the Congress and Exhibition Centre (2m2c) is continuing, staying on schedule and within budget. The reopening is now planned for summer 2026, in time for the 2026 Montreux Jazz Festival. The festival will therefore take place off-site again this year, based on a similar concept to of the 2024 edition.

The town council is pleased to note that the Congress and Exhibition Centre renovation, which began in August 2023, is progressing as planned.

Initially scheduled for June 2025, the reopening has been postponed after being granted financial support from Vaud and the Loterie Romande Canton, as part of their sustainable development funds. The additional 8.3 million Swiss francs from the Canton will be used to improve the building's energy efficiency.

In addition, in autumn 2024, the company that had been commissioned to install the glass facades were declared bankrupt, meaning that a new contractor had to be found. However, the impact of this unforeseen event, which is an inherent risk in a project of this scale, has been minimised: the additional costs have been absorbed and the delay has been kept to a minimum. The glass facades are currently being installed and will be completed during the summer. The technical equipment will be installed between July and December 2025.

This work schedule means that the Montreux Jazz Festival will have to be relocated again this year. The organisers are finalising the plans, but it will be similar to the 2024 eidtion, with the stage being set up on the lake below the Place du Marché.

After the interior work is finished, the required testing to bring the building back into service will take place during the first half of 2026. The official reopening of the 2m2c is scheduled for July 2026, in time for the 2026 edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival to return to the building.

The town council is delighted with the progress of this major project, which will provide a sustainable and modern conference centre for the people of Montreux and visitors to the city.
