New, prefabricated, wooden rental building after deconstruction of the original masonry building
Observations carried out by Retraites Populaires, on behalf of the Vaud State Pension Fund, concerning the feasibility of a rental building dating from the 1970s, have resulted in a project focussing on sustainable development and energy efficiency. This project is aiming to achieve the Minergie ECO label. The project uses wood as a building material and for the façade cladding, which was produced by the company Renggli.
The building has been partially deconstructed and has kept the existing basement structure which serves as a support for a new building of 67 flats. The upper floors have a wooden structure: flagstones, perimeter walls, and load-bearing interior walls.
Particular attention has also been paid to the exterior design. As the project is located in a wooded area, a study was carried out to keep as many trees as possible and to reuse any felled trees. For example, for paths and the creation of a common area, where tree trunks have been used to create outdoor furniture and even a sports structure for the tenants.
