Construction work on the 2m2c has reached a major milestone with the installation of imposing prefabricated staircases. These elements, weighing between 7 and 24 tonnes, required the use of a 100-tonne self-propelled crane. The on-site crane was unable to support such heavy loads.
Prior to installation, meticulous preparations were made: platforms were poured and propped up to accommodate the staircases, and the latter were fitted with temporary safety barriers and anchor points.
The staircases were installed in three separate stages, each requiring perfect coordination between the crane operator and the building foreman. The first stage, carried out during the height of the Montreux Jazz Festival, was particularly complex because of the constraints associated with the event.
Lifting the stairs was a real technical challenge. The elements had to be accurately slotted between the new supporting metal structures, leaving a margin of just a few centimetres. Fortunately, the weather conditions were favourable, allowing this delicate operation to be carried out successfully.
The smaller staircases will be installed at a later date using the on-site fixed crane.
